PERCEPTION CAN BE SHAPED
As part of a collaboration with ERCO, a leading manufacturer of architectural lighting, we developed a digital spatial experience that not only explains lighting effects, but makes them visually and interactively tangible.
Through interviews with architects, lighting designers, and architecture students, we identified a clear need: intuitive, visual tools that make the effects of light easy to understand.
The goal of the project was to translate the content of ERCO’s Handbook of Lighting Design, a renowned reference in the field, into a digital, future oriented format. The result is an interactive application that makes the impact of light spatially perceptible, conveys knowledge, and offers inspiration for real-world practice.

CONCEPT
User access the digital experience space via the ERCO website to explore light and its functions. They start by selecting different room situations from areas such as offices, museums, or hospitality. Each of these room situations shows how light can be used differently depending on the environment. After finishing the experience, they can then contact ERCO experts directly with any questions or suggestions they may have.

Within the selected environment, the digital experience space is divided into stations that users can explore through interaction. Each of these stations deals with a central principle of architectural lighting design, from simple basic lighting to dynamic scenarios. The spatial experience is complemented by a didactic level: short, topic-based explanations that help users understand the lighting effects shown.

The interaction is registered by AI and generates informative content on the topic in the background. This content can be accessed on the material-free, didactic level, where the light topic is explained in three different perspectives: effect, application, and implementation which are based on text for more detailed information.
