THE MEANING OF CLOTHES

In this editorial design project, we explored how traditional gender clothing has evolved and how society reacts to it today. We talked to people from different generations, including men who wear skirts and dresses in their everyday lives
and asked: What do clothes mean to you? Why is it normal for women to wear pants, but still unusual for men to wear skirts?
One of the most striking quotes came from a participant who said:
“It’s just a piece of fabric.”

This magazine combines interviews, photography and bold layouts to spark reflection. It was a deep dive into typography, visual storytelling and the details that make reading feel effortless, from color harmony to spacing and structure.

The magazine blends photography, personal stories, and historical context.

We also documented fellow students with distinctive personal styles, asking them to complete a questionnaire about what their clothing means to them, integrating their handwriting directly into the layouts to keep it personal.

Beyond design, this project taught us how complex something as simple as clothing can be and how design can help us challenge assumptions.
